Festivals & Events: Angels Camp
Our most famous festival in the entire county happens here, at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds as part of our annual county fair. The Jumping Frog Jubilee was inspired by Mark Twain’s story that was in turn, inspired by his visit to Angels Camp. The four-day event includes not only the famous frog jump – which you can participate in by renting a frog – but also live music, rodeo, demolition derby, wine and craft exhibits, an outhouse race and lots of classic fair food and rides. Festivals & Events: Arnold area
This High Sierra town surrounded by the Stanislaus National Forest features annual events ranging from the Sierra Nevada Logging Jamboree, to free concerts in the park, to the Sierra Nevada Arts & Craft Festival to Winter Wonderland at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Festivals & Events: Murphys
Murphys was named for two Irish brothers and the town celebrates this heritage with its biggest festival of the year: Murphys Irish Day, which takes place on St. Paddy’s Day and includes a raffle prize of a trip to Ireland. Another big festival here celebrates the huge, local wine culture in the form of the Calaveras Grape Stomp which is as much fun to watch as to enter as a grape stomping team. Add Music in the Parks, Dia de Los Muertos, Ironstone’s Concours d’Elegance and Spring Obsession Art Show and you get a taste of the diversity of festivals you can enjoy. In addition, you won’t want to miss the stellar Shakespeare performances in the outside amphitheater at Brice Station Vineyards’ Shakespeare on the Vine. These performances are legendary.
Festivals & Events: Copperopolis
With one of the most picturesque town squares you’ve ever seen, Copperopolis is perfectly situated for some fun events including their annual Old Fashioned Holiday & Christmas Tree Lighting, farmers markets, Summer Concert Series, Hot Copper Car Show and seasonal favorites.
Festivals & Events: Mokelumne Hill area
One of Calaveras County’s most popular festivals takes place just outside of Mokelumne Hill in West Point. The annual Lumberjack Day packs a lot of fun into this full-day event including a soapbox derby, parade, logging show and axe throwing contest, vintage car show, petting zoo and more. Other Mokelumne events include the Goldrush Writers Conference, Backyard Blues & BBQ, and the Spring Fine Arts Concert Series. See more Mokelumne Hill area annual events.
Festivals & Events: San Andreas area
There are just a few annual events in the San Andreas area – and one of them gives you the opportunity to see Calaveras from above. The Calaveras Air Fair is one of the best events in the county – with a large display of military, specialty and experimental aircrafts with flyovers and the opportunity to purchase short flights for a view of this beautiful part of the county. Get more info on San Andreas area festivals.
Festivals & Events: Vallecito area
Vallecito, though small, enjoys a couple of our favorite events: the Twisted Folk Concert Series at the beautiful Twisted Oak vineyard, and Caroling in the Cave – a concert that takes place inside Moaning Cavern, and culminates with Santa rappelling 154-feet to deliver gifts. Moaning Cavern Adventure Park also offers the thoroughly fun Zip Line Pumpkin Smash. Get full details on these events.
Festivals & Events: Valley Springs
Valley Springs may only have four annual events – but they’re all worth checking out. Imagine enjoying Independence Day fireworks over one of the most picturesque lakes in California – you can enjoy this magical experience free of charge at New Hogan Lake. And then there’s the Calaveras Oktoberfest with all of the Bavarian festivities you’d expect, plus wiener dog races. Find out more about Valley Springs events.
