Moon Alley candles, entirely handcrafted in Murphys, California are reminiscent of stained glass windows. The original technique used to create the candles is a result of years of development, reflecting the artist’s love of color, classic design, candlelight and the creative process.  Once lit, the play of light from the flame brings life to the surface of the candle.  The illuminated design is a union of beauty and function. Each piece is hand-carved from original templates and unique due to variations from hand-pouring each candle.

The artist behind these creations is Brooke Langlois, whose candle-work has been featured in the Smithsonian Institution’s gift shop in Washington DC. Here’s how she describes her inspiration:

The enthusiasm and joy with which I create Moon Alley candles is reflected back to me in the pleasure others find in their light.

A large selection of seconds, not meeting Langlois’ exacting standards is tucked away in the sale cupboards, and these are also available for purchase in specially announced “seconds sales”. In addition, you can order online from their website. But visiting the actual store means you get to enjoy the beautifully designed layout, showcasing a wide variety of these exquisite candles, inside one of the few remaining original wood buildings in Murphys.

Built in 1880 by John Manual, the building was later used as an office for the Union Public Utility District in 1946. We think you’ll agree it’s thoroughly charming and the perfect setting for Langlois’ creations.
